This is K0MRD, your Radio Prepper and this is my blog that follows my podcast ( https://redcircle.com/shows/k0mrd-radioprepper ) It is my hope that I am able to impart some knowledge on Amateur radio, and I encourage everyone that listens to my podcast to get your Amateur Radio License. Why is this important? Because we need the ability to communicate when there is a disruption in the communication infrastructure.

I am not talking about some deranged group of people taking down our communications grid, not at all, Mother Nature can do that all on her own. I am talking about severe weather, tornados, Hurricanes, and the like. These are more likely to knock out our communication lines that an extremist attack, and this is why I prepare.

Yes, I am a Prepper, I have been since 1998, and I am an Amateur Radio License holder since 2009. I hold a General class license and have communicated as far away from Iowa as Austria. The whole reason I started the podcast, and my youtube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/c/K0MRDRadioPrepper ) is to get more people to understand that we, as social animals, need to be able to communicate with each other. We need this ability not only to send and receive crucial information but also because it is good for our mental health… we NEED to be able to communicate with others simply for our own mental well-being. A study done in 2000 shows that solitary confinement can cause extreme stress and can cause psychiatric disorders (www.headspace.com), in the article they were referring to prisoners in solitary confinement, however, it could just as easily be from isolation due to inclement weather, such as being house bound during a blizzard. Having a means of communication, even if only to check in on another person in your area during these disruptions is a God send.

While I am an Amateur radio”guy” I do not dismiss Citizens Band radio (CB) or the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) all are good, viable communication tools that should be utilized by anybody interested in communications before, during, and after disruptions in our communication grid.

Recon that is all I have to say for today, this is K0MRD your Radio Prepper signing off, 73!
